Gross pay, net pay, and cash payable

Three useful totals. Here is what each one actually means.

Gross pay is wage earnings

Add basic pay and wage earning lines. Reimbursements are not automatically wages. Classify each item according to the actual arrangement and applicable requirements.

Net wages follow employee deductions

Subtract employee deductions from gross wages. Employer contribution lines are a separate disclosure, not an employee deduction.

Cash payable includes reimbursements

Fictional example: gross wages of USD 100,000 minus USD 8,000 employee deductions give USD 92,000 net wages. Add USD 5,000 of nonwage reimbursements to reach USD 97,000 cash payable.

Keep the assumptions visible

Manual inputs and user-configured tax estimates have different scopes. A custom rule result is not a reviewed statutory calculation. Always check the period, rounding, currency, and source of each deduction.

Put it into practice.
